This is amazing

This is amazing

I was looking for something on YouTube and then, as can all too easily happen, I found myself wandering down a path of video clips that I’d never heard of.  One of them  was Billy Crystal speaking at the funeral of Muhammad Ali.  It was lovely piece and he mentioned in it the first time he met his friend and hero when he performed a piece called “Fifteen Rounds” and, of course, there it was in the list of videos beside the one I was looking at.  I clicked, I watched and here it is … What a piece of work.

This is from someone who doesn’t like boxing and knows little of Muhammad Ali other than memories of watching fights from time to time and hearing him being interviewed.  What I like about this is Crystal’s delivery and Muhammad’s reactions.  He had, as I understand it at the time, no idea who Crystal was.  They went on to form a deeply rooted friendship.

I enjoyed watching this!

Reminded of this

Reminded of this

During the week, I had a “touch of flu”!!  I’m trying to make little of it but it was, of course, that awful strain known as the “Man Flu”:)  I was reminded of a video clip I was shown a few years ago and thought I might share it here again.  Just to make people aware really.

Dog on the run!

Dog on the run!

“I didn’t push him … honestly I didn’t”

I met Andy Moran briefly today and realised I’ve not posted anything here since before the All-Ireland Final.  I was, of course, disappointed Mayo did not win, but not to the point of never writing again!!

Last Thursday night I went to get something from the boot of my car and Alpha noticed the “open door” and took to his (whatever dogs take to) heels??  I followed him, knowing that he’d come back but not sure when.  We met each other briefly beside the church but he felt it wasn’t time to come home just yet.  “It’s not often I get out here without a lead and I’m not just ready to go back yet”!!  Though I understood his quest for a bit of freedom it was nearly 1am and I thought it was time to close down.  I called him gently “Come home you clown” but he seemed less than inspired by that!  From experience, I knew that if I went to the sacristy that he’d realise in time, “You know Sherlock isn’t that bad after all so I’ll wander in and see how he’s doing”.  I was ready. Well, I thought I was.

When I heard the pitter-patter of Alpha Feet I positioned myself behind the door so that I could close it when he came in, put on his lead and retrace our steps homeward.  In he came, I stretched to close the door and tripped …..

A week and dislocated shoulder later it’s still very vivid to me!!

Just renewed the licence for one year!! Could have gone “lifetime”

Ironically the request to renew Alpha’s licence came in the post two days later.  I looked at it for a while, then I looked at him and thought, “What’s another €20?” so he’s with me still.  Wouldn’t have it any other way.

So writing has been a bit slow but stick with me!!

It’s been a “ruf” week 🙂

Talented and funny

I have been lucky enough to see the show Jersey Boys and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Came across this clip recently of Rob Brydon (who IMO is very funny – I think others think that too!!) and thought I’d share.  If for no other reason, just to have something fresh on the blog.  I hope you enjoy it.

Colourful Day

Colourful Day

Earlier today I was in Monasteraden, in the midst of old friends and neighbours for a special Fundraiser for St Aidan’s N.S. It was a 5K Run/Walk with a difference. After each Kilometer travelled, the “participants” were coloured. The idea being that at the end of the 5k, they would be multi-coloured. Sadly I was in a bit of a rush as I had another commitment in my own parish but I was very happy to be there. It was nice to be asked to start the race. Not sure how it finished but the atmosphere was good. Well done to all involved.
