It was a Snow Day

It was a Snow Day

Okay, I know I should find something else to do but I had been talking with Johnny Duffy about old cars!  I’d mentioned the Peugeot 403 to him and he could not recall it.  He remembered the 404 alright!  I told him that my father had once adapted the boot of Alfie Gallagher’s Peugeot 403 to include a sink with hot and cold running water where Alife, a vet, could wash his hands in a farmyard before getting back into the car.  Johnny reminds me of my father, he’s a sort of inventive character who repairs rather than replaces. I told him that Columbo used to drive a Peugeot 403 in the old TV series of the same name.  Johnny remembered Columbo (Peter Falk) but not the car.  I was even able to tall Johnny where petrol was filled in the 403 – a flap that lifted up on the left-hand back tail light!

The snow came and I was sort of housebound so I did as you can only do at times like that – hit YouTube!  I typed in Columbo and Peugeot 403 and found this clip!

Later I found this one …. it includes the one above but features the car a bit more!!  I love the line where he says his wife has another car but “that’s just for transportation, nothing special”

and later, I found this one – not linked to Columbo’s car but a good walk around an old car!!

And totally separate to all of these, I found myself in Jay Leno’s garage looking at a Citroen DS

And that led to this ….

then this …..

and then, snow or no snow, I knew it was time to go out!!

Like it … love it

Like it … love it

Came across this today.  Not my favourite song or even up there but what a performance!!

AND … one blog reader who liked this as well shared a wonderful video clip with me.  Thanks Peter.  Really REALLY enjoyed this one.

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they’re better left unsung
I don’t know, don’t really care
Let there be songs to fill the air

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who’s to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home

This is amazing

This is amazing

I was looking for something on YouTube and then, as can all too easily happen, I found myself wandering down a path of video clips that I’d never heard of.  One of them  was Billy Crystal speaking at the funeral of Muhammad Ali.  It was lovely piece and he mentioned in it the first time he met his friend and hero when he performed a piece called “Fifteen Rounds” and, of course, there it was in the list of videos beside the one I was looking at.  I clicked, I watched and here it is … What a piece of work.

This is from someone who doesn’t like boxing and knows little of Muhammad Ali other than memories of watching fights from time to time and hearing him being interviewed.  What I like about this is Crystal’s delivery and Muhammad’s reactions.  He had, as I understand it at the time, no idea who Crystal was.  They went on to form a deeply rooted friendship.

I enjoyed watching this!

Artists for Grenfell

I just supported this …. not saying that for praise but to encourage others to maybe do the same.

I was shown this video yesterday and thought it was an amazing rendition. I enjoyed it a lot but thought today the purpose is to raise some funds for the Grenfell Fire Tragedy.  I so believe in music and song and their ability to bring ease to our lives.  Well done to all involved in this production and continued prayers with all who were caught up, witnessed, attended and helped – and the many left to patch together something of a life for themselves following this awful tragedy.

On behalf of Artists for Grenfell and The London Community Foundation please accept our sincere thanks for your kind donation. Your contribution will be restricted towards supporting those affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Old Friends tell an old story

Old Friends tell an old story

I was down in the “Thatch Cottage” at Kilmovee Community Centre a while ago.  Some of my old friends from St Aiden’s N.S., Monasteraden were there filming their most recent “movie” for FÍS.  They have become so good at this over the years.  I look forward to seeing the new production in due course.  I was reminded of the film they made last year – it centred on “GRACE”, the story of Joseph Mary Plunkett’s marriage on the day of his execution to Grace Gilford.  I just watched it now and thought I’d share. Well done to all involved.
