Just in from an uplifting concert in Ballintubber Abbey. The performers are the ever-loyal members of the Mayo Concert Orchestra with their director, George Lee. The MCO has performed concerts in Kilmovee and Urlaur (as well as Monasteraden and The Cathedral Ballaghaderreen) in recent years and always delight those who attend. Tonight’s concert was a fundraiser for the “Williams Syndrome” and, in particular, to help the funding of a Summer Music Camp that takes place in Co. Fermanagh. The final piece on the night was directed by Jarleth who lives with the syndrome and brought such joy and enthusiasm to his performance. He also sang a very beautiful song on the night. I was glad to have been there ….
Fr Frank Fahey spoke of the Pre-Christian traditions of Mid-Summer and how they have been Christianised. It was a very interesting input and well placed in the lovely and prayerful setting of Ballintubber Abbey. He may have had the last word but Jarleth had the last “tune”!!
