We gathered in the Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen on Friday June 11th. This was the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and Bishop Kelly presided at Evening Prayer to mark the close of the Year for Priests. A year ago, almost to the day, I put a few words on this blog about my being a priest and a year on the words still seem to fit! In the past year, of course, my mother died (R.I.P.) and I moved parish – so a fair bit of change.
Evening Prayer was very well attended and Bishop Brendan spoke to us about priesthood, the Sacred Heart and Eucharist. The gathering was impressive, not least because so many people from around the diocese gathered to pray for the priests of the diocese and beyond. Among those gathered was Paul Kivlehan, our one and only seminarian. It was great to see him there and to hear him take part in the prayers. God guide his vocation and bless his future. We pray that he may have some companions from the diocese in the seminary in the not too distant future.
Anyway, a few images and a hymn from the night! The hymn (The Magnificat) is sung by Bridgeen Regan from Ballaghaderreen. Bishop Kelly’s voice features too along with those gathered for the evening.
