Yesterday I put this song on our Parish Facebook page. It’s one I like a lot. Written by Eric Bogle, he recalls the day he left home to go to Australia. His mother accompanied him to the railway station and she had promised him that she would not cry. It was a lot to ask or hope for and he recounts the time they spent together, as they waited for the train’s departure. His last view of his mother, coincided with the first tear drop she shed. He said this was the first song he wrote after arrival in Australia.

I think in this song of those who are separated now, even if geographically close, due to COVID-19 restrictions and hope that people will find a song in their heart, even if a sad one, that reminds them these days will pass and that is good to love people so much that we feel their absence.
