A quick thought from this week’s Parish Bulletin
As we begin the Season of Advent, we seek to refocus our energy, take stock of where we’ve been and anticipate where we’re going. It is truly a time to prepare well for the celebration of Christmas with its embrace of a new born child who seeks to bring peace to a troubled world, stability to an unstable society and certainty to a doubt-ridden and confused people. All this and much, much more is the promise made and kept in the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
There is waiting involved. The LATE LATE TOY SHOW is not Christmas arrived. Santa on the back of a Coca Cola truck is not Christmas made real. Even the visits by Santa to parishes and shops in the weeks ahead, exciting and joy-filled as they are, do not rush the birth of our Saviour. That day is set out in history and for eternity. We move towards it – enjoying the lovely moments along the way – with patience. We cannot and should not rush this season. It has its own story to tell. This story will unfold itself in four weeks of Liturgy, four weeks of hearing God’s Word proclaimed, four weeks of reflection that might well take us to and through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The journey is begun – we’ll let it runs its course and its own pace.
Vincent, thank you for all you set forth on your site. If I remember righly, you used to have a a category through which one could access the Liturgy of the Hours in your ACHONRY Webpage. From time to time, I like to copy out a section of a Second Reading from the Hour of Readings. (Of course, I could type it from the text of the relevant page in the volume of the DIVINE OFFICE. Just a desire to labour-save..!) Any suggestions for a reference where one could find the office of, say, 4 December to copy a section of St. John Damascene’s offering for that day. .
